Dreaming of Dubrovnik

Well it's mid-January and this is about the time of the year I start day dreaming of being somewhere else. Vacation planning for 2016 is in full swing whether my husband likes it or not :) Since I can't be on the beach right now drinking vino y tinto's, I will just have to reminisce on our trip to Croatia a few years back. This is helping me cope with the 15 hour days behind my laptop during busy season at a public accounting firm!

When we arrived in Dubrovnik, it was late at night. The cab driver dropped us off outside the city walls informing us this was as far as he could take us and we would have to walk the rest of the way. As soon as we stepped inside the historic walls, it was like we were in another world. No one around and only the street lights reflecting off the shinny stone walls. It was magical and we felt so lucky to experience something like this.

The next morning we woke up at our gorgeous hostel and were so excited to start the day. We left to go for breakfast and the whole scene had changed. The quaint, softly lit streets we experienced the night before were now covered in tourists who had arrived from their cruise boats that morning. We spent some time walking around the beautiful yet crowded streets. After lunch we decided it was time to get out of the Old Town and head for the beach.

The beach had stunning views of the old town and beautiful blue water. We had some much needed time in the sun and the crisp Adriatic Sea and then visited a cliffside bar for cocktails and appetizers. The cliffside bar was a dream. People were jumping off rocks into the ocean, sipping on drinks and watching the sun set. The city was calm again after the cruise boats had departed.

The next day was more of the same, we had to get out of the old town during the day and enjoy the water. We took a boat to do some island hopping in the Adriadic. Vino y tinto's all day listening to the Lumineers on repeat, it was bliss.

Our last day we kayaked to a local island and spent the day sun bathing on rocks, taking pictures of peacocks, exploring island lagoons, and drinking grapa with locals. That evening we took a sunset walk along the iconic historic city walls. It was the perfect way to end our trip in Dubrovnik. Now, I might need to book flights for us to go back!
